We are only a day away from it being the new year. What will 2014 bring us?! I know that it will definitely bring us a new music, tv, and movies. The shows that I will look forward to be watching are Workaholics,(Jan 22), Girls(Jan 12), Parks and Rec.(Jan 7), Portlandia(Feb 27) , Maron etc. These are only the tip of the iceberg. In addition, there will be sports. Basketball season will head into high gear, NCAA March Madness and for the NBA , the post All-Star break is always exciting heading to the playoffs. Football next month will also exponentially grow with NFL playoffs in Jan. and the Superbowl in Feb. Overall, there is a lot to be excited for in the new year and I hope everyone accomplishes their personal goals and dreams. Earlier today, Mike Shanahand was relieved of his duties as head coach of the Washington Redskins. Shanahan had a record of 24-40 over 4 years as head coach. Personally, I agree with the Redskins to part with Shanahan and his staff. There was a lot of controversy between him and quarterback Robert Griffin III and benching him for the last 3 weeks of the season, after recovering from am ACl tear late last season into the offseason. in addition, Shanahan should have just coached the team and not be involved in making personnel decisions, which are the responsibilities of a GM. American Hustle was an incredible film filled with drama and comedy throughout. Actors Christian Bale and Amy Adams had impressive performances that transcended their roles. The film was set in the late 1970s and the set design captured the essence of the time period. Overall, the film was well done and should grab some awards during Oscar and Golden Globe season.  

After watching a heartbreaking loss by the Washington Redskins to the Dallas Cowboys, I saw some glaring signs of help for the Redskins. Overall, this season has been tumultuous , first, starting with the comeback of Robert Griffin III and his 2nd year slump. Then, controversy between Coach Mike Shanahan potentially quitting on the team at the end of the year, and then benching RG3 for the rest of the season. The Redskins have been on the negative side of the media too much , which has plagued the team with losses, coupled with horrible playcalling by the coaching staff on both sides of the ball.  I'm tired of the Redskins being a joke, Dan Snyder please make some changes and hire quality coaches and front office staff. Bad news again for Kobe Bryant, he has recently suffered a knee fracture. This unrelated to his Achilles tear that he recovered from on Dec. 7th . This is has to be devastating to Bryant after rehabbing from his Achilles injury 8 months ago, but there is still the rest of the season. Also, fortunately, Bryant has a fracture , not a broken bone so he can recover fully from his Achilles and knees. Kobe Bryant will bounce back from this injury and return to form. Knee injuries are common to players at his age, similar to Michael Jordan in his latter years with the Washington Wizards. Kobe just needs to refine his game and can't be as explosive as we the fans are accustomed to seeing him. I believe his playing style will be more fundamental with some elaborate moves here and there. I wish the best to Kobe Bryant and success for the rest of his career. It is unfortunate to see talented and dedicated players , such as Bryant , fall to injury.  The Black Mamba will strike again. Follow

Jameis Winston, quaterback of Florida State, has won the Heisman Trophy. He is the youngest to win the Heisman, surpassing last year's winner, Johnny Manziel. Winston has proven from week 1 that he is an elite quaterback and can dictate a game at any moment. However, there were some off the field issues, regarding the alleged sexual assault charge brought upon him the past couple weeks, and the victim reportedly was abused by Winston a year earlier. Through an investigation by the Talahassee Police Department, Winston had been innocent and dropped of all charges. If that had been true, honestly I don't think he would have won. Recently, the victim is unsatisfied with the verdict and is looking for re-evaluation of the alleged crime in court.  With that being said, I congratulate Mr.Winston and his excellent work as a player and as a team at Florida State University. He and the noles will be playing the BCS National Championship game against Auburn in a couple weeks. Follow me

Childish Gambino's new album, Because The Internet has been released today. I am listening as we speak and it is impressive. Although , there are a couple intro and outros on the album, the quality of the raps are great. Gambino, like Drake does an excellent and unique job of fusing r/b and rap by singing the chorus and rapping the verses simoteanously. I would rate this 2nd under Nothing Was the Same-Drake , for the best rap album of 2013. Check this out please!  Keep it real my peeps and one love! After suffering from an achillies tear seven months ago, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant will return to the court tomorrow against the Toronto Raptors. No one expected Bryant to return so suddenly, many analysts , such as Stephen A. Smith of ESPN, expected Bryant to return around Christmas. However, knowing Kobe Bryant, he is extremely motivated and will doubt himself as a player, and his capabilities. Yet, the question remains is, will Kobe Bryant return to superstar form? Bryant has been in the NBA for 18 years and has completely played at a high level, with 5 championships, MVP, 2 Olympic Gold Medals for USA Men's National Basketball Team, 10+ time All-star . etc. If he retired today, he would be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Although, basketball fans, such as myself, still believe that Bryant has productivity in him and is on a quest for at least another championship to match Michael Jordan. Also, Bryant is only 67 points shy of surpassing Jordan for being the 3rd All-Time

Rap fans , get ready because Childish Gambino will be releasing his new album , Because  The Internet on Dec. 10th. His single, 3005 , is already a jam and I play it on a regular basis. So, I look forward to jammin' out to multiple tracks on his new album on Tuesday. Last night I saw Oprah Winfrey's Next Chapter , with guest Magic Johnson, one of the NBA's greatest players of all time. Oprah came to interview to recieve an update on his life, from his playing days. to his HIV diagonisis and treatments, his business savvy and family life. Johnson addressed that his instant success in the NBA made him an instant celebrity , especially in the city of Los Angeles, California. Magic became "Showtime" and everyone wanted a piece of him, particulary women. He admitted to being reckless sexually and eventually led to his HIV diagnosis , suddenly after 13 years in the NBA and on top of the world , with a spouse and incoming child. This virtually ended his career , but Johnson raised awareness for the disease and became a spokesman for the cure. He used his pre-existing celebrity to rally support and it has been beneficial, HIV cases have been the lowest its ever been in the past 30 plus years. Then, Johnson focused on becoming a businness

This past weekend I had the opporutnity to watch the Hunger Games series. I consider myself of a fan of the series. It all started with the first movie and its insight into the futuristic , post-apalyptic fight to death state the world is in. Celebrating and glorifying these teen gladiators by the public, and in turn the public simply cares for their entertainment. The second film, Catching Fire , gives insight into the lives of the glaidators and facing veterans in the games. Meanwhile, he public wants to end this madness and start a revolution. However, the government will do by any means neccessary and destroy every piece of land the opresed citizens reside in. Well, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Most of my time was spent with family and football. What astonishes me every year, is that the prepartations and shopping that goes into Thanksgiving is incredible. Moms and Dads will wake up at the crack of dawn to get the latest deal on a turkey, decorations, etc. Then, comes Black Friday. Black Friday, is a day where you can get the biggest bargain on material possesions in every marquee department store or shopping store. However, stores open at 4 in the morning to cleanhouse all of their inventory. Coupled with Black Friday, Hanukkah fell during the Thanksgiving holiday. This is the first time in over a hundred and fifty years. Now, stores have heightened Jewish consumers now that they are shopping for Thanksgivng, Hanukkah and Black Friday.  With all of this being said, I think we as American consumers are obsessed over low prices. I had the opportunity to watch one of my favorite up-and coming comedians, Aziz Ansari, in his new stand-up entitled Buried Alive. In the special, Ansari opens up on marriage, settling down, gay marriage,children,  growing up and transistioning as an adult in his 30s. He made some great points about how people generally are afraid of being alone for the rest of their lives , and they might not find their soulmate. Instead, they will go on and online dating site , or meet a partner through a mutual friend and spend a couple years with them and get married.  Coupled with that, 50% of marriages end in divorce. Ansari makes the point that you only marry if you're truly invested in love, if not; then find other endeavors and meet someone along the way. Bill Cosby makes his standup comedy special on Comedy Central on Saturday, Nov.23rd at 8pm. This will be his first standup special in ovre 30 years! It is refreshing that Cosby returns to tv since his shows, The Cosby Show and Cosby. I expect 30 years worth of material condensed into an hour. Also, I love that Cosby is going back to his roots as a comedian, and shows that is never too late to refine your craft! I'll be by the tv, eating pudding with my sweater on for this momentous occasion. Be sure to watch a legend at work!

Everyone should check out the new single from Childish Gambino titled, "3005" if you havent already. The song is a nice fuse between pop, r/b. and rap. After watching the recent TLC bio flick, I realized how there hasn't been a dominant R/B and Hip-Hop all female group since them. It was refreshing to watch their story again, from inner-city youth to stars in a matter of months in the early 1990s. The dedication they had was remarkable and also their struggles , particulary with LaFace/Arista record label group and being broke from early contracts and royalty disputes. This also happened with R/B singer Toni Braxton and her differences and financial problems with LaFace. Continuing with TLC, they separated and took control of their situation , and their success followed. Also, it was disheartening to watch the death of Lisa "Leftyeye" Lopes again but her impact on the group and music will never be forgotten. Around that time, R/B Aaliyah lost her life also in a tragic transportation accident. Overall, it was a great reminder of TLC and how they served as a the golden standard for female R/B/Rap groups and hopefully there

It was announced that today that the show, Girl Meets World, a spinoff of the popular 90s show, Boy Meets World will debut in 3 months. The show will have most of the cast from Boy Meets World, with characters Cory, Sean , and Topanga ,with Eric, Mr and Mrs Matthews and the one and only George Feeny. The plot entails Cory and Topanga  , married and have a tween daughter and her adventures growing up. It will be interesting for fans , such as myself , to see the spin-off have the same elements of the 90s hit show, Boy Meets World. The show will probably air on Disney Channel and draw alot of attention to with the old and new generation. Only time will tell if the Matthew's newest girl gets embraced by the world of television. Keegan Michael Key and Jordan of Mad TV have incredible and roaring success in their 3rd season of their show Key and Peele. The show has been renewed for a 4th season next year. What makes them so successful is to address the socico-econmic, cultural differences between minorties and caucasians in American without being offensive. Also, they highlight and parody popular trends in America's culture, filled with social media, and television. As a young African American and Hispanic, I can resonate with the issues Key and Peele are adressing , topics that stress me daily but finding no means of expressing them. Also, Key and Peele seem to have a universal appeal by not playing stereotupical African-American roles, something I havent seen in a comedy show since The Chapelle Show , nearly 10 years ago. What is the deal with these Hip-Hop shows such as Love and Hip-Hop, Chrissy and Jim Jones, etc. I'm a fan of Hip-Hop, but shows like this exploit the culture and everything hip-hop stands for. These shows consist of one-hit wonder rap stars "trying to make it" in the rap mogul world. You don't see Russell Simmons , Rick Reuben or Jay-Z on these reality shows , they do the work behind the scenes, without a camera to document their every move. They let their work do the talking. Plus, I do not want to see these rappers multiple lovers dipute over their children and what they're trying to do in the rap business. Get a job like everyone else and pay your bills without full documentation. Hip-Hop is supposed to express poetry in motion, not all this glitter and baby mama drama that goes with it. If you love Hip-Hop, do yourself a service and just make music and let we the public to decide if he want to buy it , without impartial bias with your reality shows.  Word to y

I was flipping through channels the other day and saw a commercial for a new show called "Moonshiners" . The premise of the show surrounds a bunch of country fellas illegally making moonshine and making profit. This is a reality tv show, I mean really? Has shows like Duck Dynasty influenced tv network executives to showing "southern livin'" of hunting, making moonshine and lying around their houses all day? Personally, I think reality tv has gotten out of control and shows like "Moonshiners" are infiltrating our tvs and rotting our minds. Saturday Night Live aired its annual Halloween special for its viewers. The show contained past cast members such as Amy Poehler , Fred Armisen, Kristen Wig,  and Bill Hader. Also, the president of the United States, Barack Obama, made a cameo appearance ; portraying himself . Also, the new cast member had some funny skits and celebrities Tom Hanks, Bruno Mars, Niki Minaj made appearances in their skits. Overall, the show was entertaining and the celebrity appearances made the show exiting. It also made show something worth watching. Teen girls everywhere must be devastated with the recent news that the Jonas Brothers cancelled their tour and will no longer perform as a group. Nick, Kevin, and Joe Jonas decided that it was best as a family to no longer perform as a group and pursue personal interests. My predictions are that Nick and Joe Jonas will probably continue their solo projects and make a name for themselves as solo artists ,and father time has caught up to them since they are in their mid-to late 20s. They aren't the baby-faced , shiny haired teen idols 7 years ago. Father time always wins and one can age overnight. The transistion from teen pop star, to adult pop star will be tough. Not many stars have done the transistion successfully. The boy band member that has done the transistion successfully is Justin Timberlake from Nsync, and has set the standard , with multiple grammys and other muscial entertainment accomplishments. So, as for the Jonas Brothers, they hope they won't go 'burnin up&q

Today is the day basketball fans, opening night of NBA action. 30 teams vie to be crowned league champions. There are some interesting headlines heading into the season opener. LeBron James and the Miami Heat look to win their 3rd consecutive championship. The Chicago Bulls with the return of PG Derrick Rose from an ACL tear he suffered 18 months ago. With Rose, he looks to help his team contend for a championship. Also, league superstar veteran Kobe Bryant suffered an Achillies tear and will sit out this season for now. Many question that will this injury end his great career and chances of winning another championship? Also, be on the look out for some historically bad teams such as the Cavaliers, Wizards, and Raptors have built themselves up in the draft and look to contend in the playoffs. Overall, this should be an exciting season filled with passionate play and skills. Let the games begin!

This past Saturday, Edward Norton celebrity-hosted this week's Saturday Night Live. It was Norton's first time hosting SNL , and he mentioned in his opening monologue that he was offered to host 13 years ago, but was busy with an acting gig. His performance was decent, he didn't make any mistakes with his skits , but presonally wasn't hilarious either with his perfomances. Miley Cyrus and Alec Baldwin made cameo appearances in a couple skits, which grabbed the audience's attention. Some suggestions for possible skits Norton could have done would be a Fight Club parody, or flop superhero movie The Incredible Hulk, or The Italian Job. On Sunday night , Peyton Manning and the then undefeated Denver Broncos returned to face his old team of the Indiannapolis Colts. After playing with them for 14 years, 2 Superbowl appearances and a win, the team made a video commemoration of all his success with the Colts. Peyton got a bit emotional, which was expected and thanked the fans for the memories. As for the game, the Broncos didn't a competitive game and loss by Peyton's former team. It seemed as if the Colts wanted to impress their former master and prove their place as the league's elite under second year quaterback, Andrew Luck. In which they did, but the Colts suffered a devastating injury to wide reciever Reggie Wayne, who suffered an ACL tear and his done for the season. On the upside for the Broncos, they got their first loss out of the way and seem to regain their lead as the league's best and playoff push.

On Thursday night on Jimmie Kimmel Live, Kimmel invited Kanye West for an interview to discuss some recent controversy on Twitter between the two, and to address a skit Kimmel parodied of West. They both said their apologies for the harsh comments they made to each other on Twitter and the misconceptions they had for one another. West started first, and wanted to let the audience and America know that he is a "creative musical genius" and he should not be criticized for his musical and buisness ventures. He wants to "change the world" with his music and be a role model for the youth to look up to. Kimmel responded to West and agreed with his statements. He said that because West is outspoken, his words get misinterperted and makes him a villain in society. He also mentions the angst the media has against his relationship with Kim Kardashian their daughter."Just because she is a reality tv star, doesn't mean they can't put my girl on a Hollywood star.&qu

Sports video games have come a long way in the past 38 years. From the first game, Pong, in 1975 on a black and white screen with primitive graphics. However, a decade later with games Madden NFL football and Tecmo-Bowl wih Bo Jackson and NBA Jam in the late 1980s-90s. Video game software designers and developers added more detail to the graphics, making it more realistic and attractive for users to play. Professional athletes were getting recognized for their features in the games and sports organizations saw exponential growth in merchandise sales. Now, we love into the 90s and the demand for higher quality game consoles such as the first Playstation in 1994, grew and allowed players to see the quality of the games into higher definition and the expansion of sports leagues such as the NHL marketed their product and allowed player licensing. With all of the buzz around around pop music with Miley Cyrus , rap music with Drake, Kanye West , country music with Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, where does that leave R and B music with? There needs to be a renassiance of soul and funk into the music scene again. Is it because R/B isn't  sexy or catchy? What's not sexy in that of a soulful love ballad? Artist such as Keith Sweat , of Bobby Brown would tell you otherwise , or the late-great Michael Jackson with the Off The Wall album that has jams that last a lifetime such as Its The Falling In Love, Off The Wall, Working Day and Nite etc. So Ameerica, get back to some soulful and funky music. The recently controversial Miley Cyrus made her second debut on season 39 of Saturday Night Live for the second time. However, this time she wasn't seen as Disney Channel's precious  child star of Hannah Montana, but a "free-spirited" 20 year -old woman , establishing a new image for herself as an artist and entertainer. The story of a middle-aged chemistry teacher, Walter White , who had been diagnosed with lung cancer and has no means of supporting his treatment , and to his surprise with an encounter with a former student, Jesse Pinkman , a crystal meth dealer , who makes large sums of money at rapid rates. Walt finds this method incredibly lucrative and makes a new and innovative method of " crystal blue" meth that the United States has never seen before. By day he teaches highschool students the foundations of chemistry , by night he is transformed into a meth mastermind by the alias of Heisenberg. Little does Walt know that his actions will affect his family, friends , and life in the process. Gilligan and his staff masterfully combine the personal elements of family life  and criminal activity, and daily life. The moment has finally come , the NBA Finals. The Miami Heat look to defend their title again , and this marks their third consecutive trip to the finals in 3 years , since superstars LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade joined forces in 2010. As for their opponents, the San Antonio Spurs  they return to the finals since their last championship win in 2007. The Spurs have veteran and championship petigree with center Tim Duncan, speed demon Tony Parker and the explosive foward and key role player, Manu Ginobili. However, beyond the matchups, this championship series represents redemption and solidifaction of greatness for LeBron James, who is viewed as the most dominant player in the NBA currently. What is my future? Will I be a Nobel prize winning scientist? Will I be a famous singer? Will I be a professional athlete? All of the questions ponder through my head as I am on the cusp of graduation from highschool. I find myself at a crossroads of my past and the present. All I can do is focus on what is near , such as graduation, attend college and do my best. From there Ill know my next destination. Fame has it's price and meteorite leaves one in a bottomless pit of discontent. So, that leaves me with one question, what's next? The answer is I don't know. I'm fine with that. So here's to the future. 

What makes a person unique? What makes a person special? I mean I'm a strong advocate for indviuality , but in today's media , one can't differentiate between one pop star from the other , one professional athlete from another . They are humans after all, that is one thing in common , but there has to be distinguishing factors that make a person special . I believe that every person has defining qualities about themselves and plenty of attributes to offer. So why he confirmed to what popular culture dictates us to be?
