Paterson Movie Review

Now that the 89th Academy Awards have ended, there were a couple of films this past year that lacked proper recognition. One of the films, is Paterson ( 2016) , starring Adam Driver, ( Girls, Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Drivers plays a young man by the name of Paterson, a bus driver in ironically, Paterson, New Jersey.  Paterson is a simple man who drives his bus, on his daily route, typical 9-5 job. But, he contains a hidden gift of poetry. He writes daily before he starts his morning route, at the park, and any place where he feels inspired. His wife, Laura,( Golshifteh Farahani) always prods him to show his wonderful work to the world. Yet, Paterson refuses. He just wants to write for fun, i guess and not live up to those expectations and have unwanted pressure. However, as each day passes, he begins to realize that his poetry is a vital part of his life and he must share his gift to the world, regardless of what others may think. In addition, Paterson is a well-known local, since he was lived there all of this life. He usually stops by Shades Bar some nights to unwind with locals and the bar owner, Doc, (Barry Shabaka Henley). Also, he walks his dog, Marvin, who is a bit of a rascal. Paterson may live an ordinary life, but it is the little things that inspires his poetry.

I really fell in love with the cinematography of the film, the slow angles of the city of Paterson. The film has smooth dialogue between the characters and it has this natural rhythm. Director Jim Jarmusch truly captured the daily lives of most Americans, working, doing our daily work routines, and habits overall. i could really resonate with the film. If you see this film, you probably will too. My rating for this film, is a 10/10.  It is truly an excellent film and should have gotten more recognition this awards season.  Although, you can probably stream the film online, or on demand through your cable provider. It is set to release on DVD April 4th. If you like it, go buy it and watch it with loved ones and friends. Or go try to see it in theaters if available.

I will leave you all with a preview trailer of the film.  Enjoy!
